Troutbeck Head CAMC

Sat: Picked up the ‘van and headed for Southwaite services. Good journey along the way with no holdups. We had a good break at Southwaite, waiting for our 1pm arrival time to be called by the sat nav. The car is doing well and providing a good ride towing with ease. I’ve sussed the warnings to turn off now to provide the smooth journey. Again the spare wheel is on the roof rack, so the interior space is plentiful. The new fridge/freezer are great and plenty of room for platform, walking aids and other bags. the M6/A66 junction was clear this time, the roadworks not affecting us on this occasion. We then soon arrived at the campsite and booked in. We were claiming a 10% Autumn discount and a Free Night voucher, so the whole week came in at under £200 – not bad for a week in the Lakes 🙂

Sun: Weather was glorious, so I put the awning up, as I didn’t do it on arrival as we took things a little easier yesterday due to health issues. We then enjoyed a bacon & egg sarnie and generally relaxed for the rest of the day.

Mon: Weather poorer, so breakfast inside but we managed a burger for tea. It was my turn to become ill, so neither of us were feeling great. The weather turned horrendous during the night, with very strong winds and torrential rain. Everything held up well, bar one awning peg, we I had to repeg at 5am in the morning.

Tue: Weather continued to be poor with yet more rain, although the wind has died down now. It was a very slow start as I took my time gathering energy to get through the day. Made a trip into Penrith to pick up a few things from Sainsbury’s, an interesting route avoiding all of the roadworks! Filled up on the way back and then relaxed for the rest of the day.

Wed: A nice shower first things, although the water pressure isn’t the best. Breakfast, tea and more poor weather. During the night, the winds were horrendous again, just like Monday. Another early 5am awning fix, replacing two broken ladders.

Thu: The rain and wind continues, we enjoyed breakfast cooked in the rain, nothing planned for today. There’s a certain theme to this holiday isn’t there!

Fri: Rain! We did a bit of pre-packing to help Cath for tomorrow’s departure.

Sat: Full pack down of wet awning and we were done by 11am, ready for departure. Smooth journey home, despite a ratchet strap losing it’s Velcro, so the strap starting flapping in the breeze! Quickly sorted in a layby
